Currently the Children's playgroup is fundraising with the help of the Hall Committee and the Parish Council in order to replace the current play equipment which is nearing the end of its useful life. It is hoped to replace with more durable items and if sufficient funds are found , provide a skateboard park as well .

Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you to Welcombe Horticultural Society for putting on a brilliant jazz evening and for the generous donation made to the playground appeal.

As promised here is a brief progress report for the playground project.

Our questionnaire highlighted a number of priorities to residents and friends of Welcombe and can be summarised as follows: the playground should appeal to a wider age range of children; consideration should be made for disabled access and use; our approach should be one of low maintenance; and lastly, swings and a slide came out as the most desirable pieces of equipment for the playground to include, closely followed by a seesaw, roundabout and a basketball/football hoop.

To achieve our goal we anticipate that we will need to raise approximately £27,000. This money will enable us to: repair or replace some existing equipment, purchase new equipment, fence the designated area and provide better access to the playground (i.e., a ramp to the gate). However, we have decided to adopt a phased approach to this project. Phase one would include; essential maintenance, improving access to the playground and installing swings. To date the community has raised approximately £3,400 (including funds from the jazz evening) through local fundraising events and we are in the process of completing grant applications (The Bridge Trust and a couple of others).

More details here soon, and it is hoped a donation link will appear on this site soon
