About Welcombe Village Hall:

The Village Hall is a thriving and vibrant centre of activities for Welcombe Village. The oldest part of the building is Victorian and was originally the village primary school. It has since been extended a number of times providing the large hall and skittle alley. In 2010 the main Hall and skittle alley were totally refurbished and now offer a brighter more comfortable adaptive space. Additional windows have been added providing commanding views over the local countryside, an area of outstanding natural  beauty. In 2013 the toilets and kitchen were rebuilt and the kitchen is now a spacious cooking area again with fine views down the valley to Welcombe mouth.

Welcombe is a collection of hamlets just inside the Devon border with Cornwall. It is within easy reach of a wide range of accommodation, St Nectan’s church,&  the local pub (the Old Smithy Inn). The Hall provides a home for a wide range of activities and groups. The children’s group formed a few years ago and uses the Hall for a wide range of activities from seasonal parties to arts events providing fun and learning for both local and visiting children. Recently it has expanded and now runs monthly youth groups aimed at older children and young adults. The Welcombe parent and toddler group meets once a week on Thursday mornings and provides an opportunity to meet chat and relax while the toddlers play and learn to socialise. The Welcombe and Meddon Women’s Institute use the Hall as the main meeting venue. They meet once a month on Tuesdays with a diverse range of visiting speakers. Over 60s have a lunch club which meets once a fortnight and gives members of the old generation the chance to meet while enjoying a delicious lunch. A bridge club is a relatively new group and meets enthusiastically on Wednesday evenings. A sewing group meets on Wednesday mornings and there is a yoga session on Thursday evenings which is well supported.

During the winter, the Hall is the home of the Welcombe men’s skittles team who compete in the Bideford league. Currently the ladies team plays at the West Country Inn. Each summer the Hall plays host to the Welcombe horticultural show where locals go head-to-head battling for the top prizes in the flower, vegetable, craft and children’s categories. Every December at the village has its salamagundi when locals bring food to share and enjoy in each other’s company.

The village Hall provides a more intimate atmosphere than some other halls , while it is favoured by artists and photographers who regularly hold exhibitions here. In the past courses have been held  here where people can experiment with a variety of techniques and materials. The whole hall provides an excellent venue for parties and the village regularly hosts bands here. Being quite intimate the Hall provides a great atmosphere. Whatever your needs we believe Welcombe village Hall can provide the ideal venue to ensure your event is memorable and successful.
